*****Throughout the novel, 'Airborn', Kate De Vris shows characteristics that assist her in many ways. She is a women who knows how to make things go her way and has a set of skills that stand out extremely. Kate De Vris is brave, and her characteristics prove it. Kate De Vris displays the most bravery in this book because, she can take care of herself, she is a good team member, and she knows how to manipulate people.

*****"All from books,"(Oppel 118). she said, is how she gained her wisdom. that is one way Kate De Vris takes care of herself. she gains knowledge on her own teaching herself things others take long length of time to learn. Kate can travel so far, all by herself that amazes many others : " I was amazed Kate had had the nerve to come so far alone,"(Oppel 208). At one point in this book, she had only one way out: "Drugged! Honestly! you make it sound so extreme! All i did was give her a dose of her own sleeping elixir. Four drops in her water glass before bedtime. Maybe it was eight, i cant remember. No more then eight. What choice did i have! You weren't about to help me. How else was i suppose to get out? She kept the keys clutched in her fist in a death grip. I knew I'd have no chance of wiggling them out unless she was in a good deep sleep"(Oppel 210).

*****From lying to pirates to helping save the Aurora, Kate De Vris helps out her only friends: " I squeezed great globs of the antiseptic ointment into the wound, and then, with Kate's help, started wrapping the leg up in fresh bandages, not to tightly"(Oppel 275). Lying to the pirates with a little help from Matt Cruse was not easy: "My father will be desperate.He was waiting for us in Hawaiis.Mother and I were visting my aunt"(Oppel 242).When pirates take over the Aurora again, that did not stop Kate: " For the next half an hour or so, Kate and I worked along the inside of the hull, opening access hatches and casting off land lines"(Oppel 285). Kate shows team work through out this whole book.

*****Kate De Vris can be very manipulating at times in this novel. When she wants something she gets it: " Fine," she said."i don't want to force you. I can ask Mr.Lunardi.""Mr.Lunardi""Yes, I'm sure he would be delighted to accompany me"(Oppel 148/149). She makes you feel bad and want to come: " You're accompanying me.""No, I'm not. i,m not coming.""Goodbye, then"(Oppel 123). She trys to let people know what she is thinking: " But i didn't see why Bruce had to pick this moment to be all suave and matinee-idolish"(Oppel 211). This is how Kate De Vris manipulates people through out Airborn.

****Kate De Vris displays the most amount of bravery in Airborn because, she does a perfect job at takin care of herself, she is an amazing team player and, she is really good at manipulating other people.
